Empathetic communication and behaviour as ways to connect with others
“Self-absorption in all its forms kills empathy … When we focus on ourselves, our world contracts as our problems and preoccupations loom large. But when we focus on others, our world expands. Our own problems drift to the periphery of the mind and so seem smaller, and we increase our capacity for connection …”
Daniel Goleman, Social Intelligence: The New Science of Human Relationships
We are all wired for empathy, the ability to feel what others feel. Under stress, it may become more challenging to be focus on what others feel. Actually, in heated debates, it is challenging to pay attention to what we are feeling ourselves. The great news is that we can develop empathetic thinking if we chose to.
In this workshop, we will hear what empathy is, why it pays off to develop empathetic behaviour in the relationships with the close ones and what kind of habits highly empathetic people have.
The workshop includes lecturing, group coaching and group exercises. The group exercises aim to test the empathic abilities of the participants. The group coaching aims to identify empathetic habits to embrace in their everyday interactions. The workshop lasts 2 hours and 15 minutes.
